 About the Course

Participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. 

 

Prerequisites
In order to participate in the Lifeguarding course, participants must prove that they are:
  • Minimum age of 15 by the last scheduled day of the course. **
  • Able to swim 300 yards continuously, alternating between front crawl and breast stroke, utilising rythmic breathing.
  • Able to, starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.  
  • **State Issued ID required

    Certifications

    Upon successful completion of all class materials, Participants will recieve

    • Lifeguarding/First Aid (Valid 3 Years)
    • CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider (Valid 2 Years)

    The Red Cross continues to help our local residents affected by house fires.  On September 21st we responded to a fire on Jefferson Avenue and provided food, lodging and clothing for 1 adult and 3 children; Last week we assisted a family of 2 adults and 3 children and 2 seniors who lost everything.
