Heroes Campaign

Heroes for the American Red Cross campaign is a grassroots effort by businesses, schools, individuals, civic and other organizations in our community to each raise $1,000 (by any legal means) for the Red Cross. It allows the Red Cross through its volunteer fundraisers the ability to reach the many small donors within the community. The campaign begins in early Fall and culminates in May, with our signature Daily Press Ad running in March, Red Cross Month.

Dress Down Under

Known Peninsula-wide as the Red Cross’ signature event, Dress Down Under is held in late April. A fun-filled evening under the big tents on the grounds of The Mariner’s Museum proves to be a crowd-pleaser. We have partnered with Outback Steakhouse–Newport News almost from its inception. The antithesis of a “Black-tie Event”, Dress Down Under is a casual evening and hosts a different theme each year. Entertainment by Hotcakes Band along with Silent and Live Auctions gives everyone a chance to party with friends for a good cause.

Board & Friends Breakfast

Board & Friends Breakfast, held every year in September, this program is mission-based and a moving opportunity that everyone can participate in at some level. The Breakfast is our largest fundraising campaign that helps create sustainability for our chapter and the services we provide. It’s based on a simple premise that if you explain Red Cross services and educate our community about Red Cross life-saving activities, that people will want to be part of the continued success of our organization.

Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition

Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition awards ceremony and dinner salutes the tireless work of our 800+ volunteers. At this special event held each June, we invite all active volunteers, board members and donors to celebrate their achievements and thank them for making our work possible.
