Wilderness and Remote First Aid

The American Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid program is designed to provide individuals with a foundation of first aid principles and skills to be able to respond to emergencies and give care when immediate access to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel are more than 1 hour away. This includes wilderness and remote environments and urban disasters, such as earthquakes and hurricanes. This 16-hour course is based on Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines established by and for the Boy Scouts of America. Topics covered include:
- Integration of emergency action principles in a wilderness setting
Performing primary and secondary assessments - Head (brain), neck and spinal injuries
- Hypothermia
Heat-related emergencies - Altitude-related illnesses
Allergies and anaphylaxis - Wounds and wound infection
- Bone and joint injuries
- Burns and much more
**Participants must be a minimum of 14 years of age and posess a current Adult CPR/AED certification in order to qualify for registration for this course. The instructor will need proof of your certification on the day of the class.**
