The Red Cross continues to help our local residents affected by house fires. On September 21st we responded to a fire on Jefferson Avenue and provided food, lodging and clothing for 1 adult and 3 children; Last week we assisted a family of 2 adults and 3 children and 2 seniors who lost everything.

New Number for Military and Familes

As part of an ongoing effort to better serve the military community, the American Red Cross will move to a single telephone number for its emergency communication services.

Beginning June 13, 2011, all military members and their families can use one number to send an urgent message to a service member. 877-272-7337 (U.S. Toll Free)

Pearson Toyota Scion Hosts Hands-Only CPR Course

CPR/AED Awareness week is June 5-June 11, in which the Hampton Roads Chapter annually holds events to celebrate learning life-saving skills. On June 7, Pearson Toyota Scion will host a Hands-Only Citizen CPR course at 6:30pm. This course format was released at the beginning of the year, and it launched an initiative to train 5 million Americans in the highly talked-about compression-only CPR technique (no “mouth-to-mouth”). The American Red Cross encourages at least one family member of each household to be trained in life-saving skills, and this course, being offered at a $5 discount for pre-registrations (walk-ins accepted at full registration price of $15), offers the perfect opportunity to receive the practical skills necessary, delivered in a casual non-certification environment, to respond when faced with an unfortunate cardiac emergency. The Mid-Atlantic Disaster Training Institute will be held June 20-25th in Newport News. This is a rare opportunity to receive training that can help you help your community in times of disaster. Thanks to everyone who came out to our 17th Annual Dress Down Under Event. To date, we have raised over $96,000 in support of Red Cross Services and Programs throughout the Coastal Virginia Region. We are so greatful to have our communities ongoing support!
