We provide emergency communications between service members and their families, information and referral when a problem is beyond the scope of the Red Cross, and, in coordination with the military aid societies, financial assistance in emergency situations, such as the need for emergency travel or when a pay problem is encountered. These services are available to military personnel and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We provide twenty-four-hour coverage for
Hampton, Newport News, and the Isle of Wight.

If you are a member of the armed services assigned to any installation or ship in the Hampton Roads area and your emergency occurred outside of this area you should call (757) 838-7320  for 24/7 assistance.

In addition to AFES, we also provide international tracing and social services. This includes seeking family members separated by war or natural disaster, or families separated during the Holocaust, and the sending of Red Cross letters between family members when normal communications have been disrupted.
